Mixed-Use Neighbourhood Redevelopment

Scope

Program: Mixed-Use

Scale: 72 acres

Status: On-Going

The Urban Equation team delivered an award-winning, world class sustainability strategy for the revitalization of a 72-acre former industrial site on Mississauga’s waterfront. The project includes 2,500 housing units, including townhouses and mid- and high-rise apartment buildings; 200,000 square feet of retail and office space; a new waterfront park with a beach and ecological gardens; and four green corridors linking the waterfront to Lakeshore Road. The Port Credit West Village plan also includes a proposed community centre, as well as a “pedestrian network,” bike routes, and a promenade that cuts through the site.

UE acted as the owners’ representative, leading all discussions around sustainability. Our work included detailed technical and financial feasibility studies, funding and grant opportunity strategies, stakeholder engagement, and establishing a project governance structure that ensures sustainability is successfully implemented across the life of the project: the award-winning Healthy Community Guidelines.

In addition to these deliverables, UE led discussions with utility companies to explore the provision of thermal and electric metering at the suite level, photovoltaic infrastructure, microgrids, and a community thermal network.
